The loincloth survived only as a ceremonial garment. A whitework quilt is composed of three white layers'a top, a back, and a filling called batting'all of which are bound together by white quilt stitches, which create a decorative pattern. The garments of the priesthood also reflect influences from the conquered peoples of mesopotamia, notably in the use of rectangular cuts and tasseled corners. Women still wore the long cone-shaped corsets of the previous two centuries, but the heavy look of the past vanished with the introduction of light silks and colors and the loose gown, or mantua.

Ours are loomed in a plush, plain weave pattern for a deep, soft pile - and fabulous warmth. Vegetal dyes came from leaves, roots, bark, and, occasionally, fruit or flowers of plants. Because the spreads we use are 100% cotton the finished product is soft soothing and bright.

In france, heading toward revolution, fashion became stiffer and more elaborate and formal. When the embroidery industry began the move into electronic multihead lockstitch embroidery machines the mass production of chenille was left to the skilled operators manually producing chenille products as they had for years. The extremely simple, easy, and comfortable clothing that developed in early greek and roman civilization consisted of the chiton, the chlamys, and the peplos. On the other hand, the industrial revolution produced a more rapid series of changes in women's clothing than had previously been possible and facilitated the manufacture of fashionable clothes.

Techniques embroidery stitches may be functional (as are the stitches in nondecorative sewing) or purely decorative. "When i buy damaged or heavily stained bedspreads i cut them up and turn them into pillows," says griffin, who would never recommend destroying a spread in good condition, just to turn it into something else. China and india are the leading cotton manufacturers, followed by the united states, where cotton mills have relocated from new england to the southern cotton-producing states. 100% Cotton tufting on cotton sheeting.
